Where in the world is Weird Richard!??
Following the wild and weird trail of the LEGO King can be a daunting task -- his energy level is high and his passion for building unstoppable! Here are a few pictures and descriptions of recent places Richard has visited. If you are interested in seeing Weird Richard in person, see what you can do about getting an Academy of Engineering installed somewhere near to your home -- your school, local Boys and Girls Club, or YMCA would be great places to start. You might just be surprised and get to meet him in person!
Here are some images from Tigert Middle School in Soda Springs, ID. Richard drove the infamous PCS Van
across over 200 miles of southern Idaho desert to deliver his unique training experience to teachers and community volunteers there. The Tigert Academy of Engineering is located in the school library, but shared among different programs. It serves as the foundation for an after-school program, is used for a semester long technology / engineering course, and is also utilized by math and science teachers for specific activities designed to reinforce concepts introduced in their regular classroom curriculum.
Garden Valley, Idaho -- just as the name would imply, is a veritable garden spot of the state, nestled in the deep green forests of central Idaho, near the Payette River. Richard spent some time here recently working with students and instructors with their Academy of Engineering installation. Garden Valley stores their Academy in the school cafateria where students have lots of table room to work on projects.
Vallivue Middle School in Caldwell, Idaho has had several surprise visits from Weird Richard. Academy of Engineering students at Vallivue are in a vo-tech program that focuses on technology and engineering principles. Interesting bit of little-known trivia -- Weird Richard's dad is also a teacher! Bob Wright also teaches at Vallivue and is hopeful that his son will one day deliver an Academy of Engineering into his classroom.
The Ada County Boys and Girls Club, located in Garden City, Idaho, was one of the first locations for the Academy of Engineering program. These pictures are of the training sessions and student open-house that was featured after the grand opening of the Academy of Engineering there.
Weird Richard loves to travel and is fond of telling stories about some of the harrowing experiences he has endured, all for the great cause of furthering Engineering education! Here are some pictures of his recent visit to Florida where he spent a week working at Chain of Lakes Middle School Academy of Engineering lab. He loves working with the students but it seems he continually runs into hurricane warnings whenever in Florida!
Rockland, Idaho is another great story he is fond of telling!
"...I nearly DIED in the freak snowstorm that socked eastern Idaho. I-84 south to Ogden was closed. The Idaho State Police closed I-86 east just as I got through. Over 35 accidents reported! I saw a Ford Ranger off the road that had taken out the "emergency vehicles only" sign. I spotted a big blazer that ran/slid head on into a concrete embankment. And there was the LEGO King popping wheelies over snow difts!"
