A month or two ago, Sunny ( an instructor at the PCS in Spokane ) and I were talking about really cool projects we could post on the web
for the students in Spokane. She mentioned "Well the kids are building an awesome Notre Dame," and I said "Uhh okay let's use that!"
Of course I could point out how the Norte Dame is an excellent example of Gothic architecture...but I would rather let you folk look at the pictures I have posted here. This particular project is an excellent example of how an educator can direct a team of students to explore history!
Sunny writes:
Here is some information about the project that you may or may not want to
put on the page:
It is the result of a group effort of over twenty kids ages 5-16
It has the correct number of statues, buttresses, and windows
It measures 5.5' x 2.5' x 2'
We're guessing it used between 20 and 25 thousand pieces (we have almost
no beams left right now!)
Through building it, several students learned much about gothic
architecture, architectural integrity, cathedrals in general, supporting a
large roof and conserving pieces at the same time, and generally had a
good time.
